The Olentangy Orange High School Track & XC programs are without a doubt, some of the best and most talented teams in the state. Obviously, there is a lot of work that is done in order to achieve this success. Coach Walters, the head coach for the track team and boys XC team, definitely plays a big role in the teams success.
There have been many talented runners who have since left the team, most notably superstar Hunter Moore. Moore currently holds multiple school records, including the XC 5K race.
Many new talented runners have since joined the team. Tim Volkmar, who is a foreign exchange junior from germany, has proved himself to be on of the strongest runners on the team, and this is only his first year! “Although it’s always hard to see runners go, It's definitely very exciting to see new runners join the team. The future is going to be bright!”, Says Sophomore runner, Owen McDermott.
Every single runner does put in a lot of work. Cross Country and track are not at all easy sports. The cool thing about these sports however, is the more work you put in, the better you get. There’s always room for improvement, after all, practice really does make perfect.
“We’ve had a lot of runners in the past join the team as just ok, but improve to become super strong runners. It all takes a lot of work”, Says Head Coach Adam Walters. Cross Country and Track really do require a ton of work. But there both sports that you always improve a lot at.
You can always be a naturally good runner, but in order to do something big in the running world, you need to put in a ton of work. It takes a lot of work to become a super star. But once you cross that finish line, it really does pay off.
There are no timeouts, halftimes, intermissions, breaks, huddles, or any of that in a race, it's truly an all out dash to the finish once that pistol goes off. But in the end, running is something that you either love, or you hate.
