Alexander O’Connor, known as Rex Orange County, has recently been charged with sexually assaulting a woman on six separate occasions. It is alleged the assaults occurred over a two-day time span this past summer.
The 24-year-old English pop singer appeared at Southwark Crown Court on Monday, where he pleaded not guilty to all six charges and was released on unconditional bail.
It is alleged that O’Connor assaulted the woman twice in London’s West End on June 1 and assaulted the same woman again four times the following day, once in a taxi and three times at his home in Notting Hill.
In addition to denying the charges in court, a representative for O’Connor released a statement to the press regarding the recent allegations.
“Alex is shocked by the allegations, which he denies, and looks forward to clearing his name in court,” a representative for the musician said in a statement to the press. “He is unable to make any further comment because of the ongoing proceedings.”
O’Connor’s next court date is set for Jan. 3, 2023.
This past July, O’Connor canceled the rest of his tour through an announcement on social media due to “personal circumstances,” that meant he was “having to spend some time at home this year” and would “not be able to continue with touring as planned.”
O’Connor rose to fame quickly in 2017 with hits “Best Friend” and “Loving is Easy.” Since reaching fame, O’Connor has released one mixtape and three studio albums under the name Rex Orange County.
