Courier Online - April/May, PERSONALITY PROFILE.

One may become well known for one specific talent or interest. However with Jay Shin however, this is not the case. Jay has made a name for himself recently because of a variety of things.

Singing, running, talent shows, and even Clapping are just some of the talents that have made Shin unique, and well admired by fellow classmates.

Shin is a current junior, so he’s no new stranger to the school. He’s done everything from winning the school’s talent show, to starting the national clapping honor society club.

“Doing all these things provided me with a lot of valuable friends, and made me actually want to go to school” Shin said.

Something Shin is very well known for is his music. Known by the name “MC b0i” on soundcloud, he has produced many songs about a variety of topics and people.

At first, Shin never really had a big interest in music. “When I was young, I thought music was lame. After randomly watching a guitar videos on youtube I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I asked my mom to buy me one, and once I got it I practiced up to 10 hours a day.” He said

Shin never used to live in America. In fact, he was born in raised North Korea. He moved to America in June of 2014. “After I came to America, I listened to EDM for the first time, I thought that was the coolest thing ever and I quit guitar and then started producing EDM.” Shin said.

“Shin stands out because he’s a very skilled musician. He has the ability to grab people’s attention based on the lyrics in his song.” said Zavier Waggoner, a close friend and fellow junior

Some songs Shin has produced include “memepage”, and “Dangerous Deadly Animals”. The lyrics of Shin’s songs are packed full of inside jokes, ridiculous verses, and different languages, making each song a uniquely entertaining listen.

“Creating these songs are simple. I write some random lyrics, make my friends read them, and put them on my beat.”  Shin said.

Shin started creating EDM in middle school. “In middle school, I used to make EDM and one day I just made a hip-hop beat as a joke. And i wanted to do something with it so i recorded my friend just speaking and put it on the beat.” Shin said.

“It’s funny how we make up our own crazy verses about whatever is on our minds, and its amazing that Shin can take the lyrics and make an entertaining and decent sounding song out of them.” Waggoner said.

Although music is one of the biggest things Shin is known for, there are also some other very unique things that make Shin such an interesting person.

Shin, along with juniors Ethan Morris, Spencer Lloyd, were the winning group of the 2019 Orange & Blue talent show. The group did a live performance to one of Shin’s songs, #Money, a song that was specially designed for the talent show.

“One day, we thought it would be a good idea to actually perform our song so we practiced for talent show and it went well. We won by getting 500 votes. We will be performing again next year with better music so write it on your calendar.” Shin said

Shin certainly isn’t afraid of doing strangely different things that may be considered “contreviseal”. Shin currently serves as the President of the OOHS National Clapping Honor Society, a club that he played a big role in starting.

“I started this club because last year, my friend Spencer Lloyd clapped randomly during class and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. It might sound like a joke to you, but I made a lot of friends and found happiness through clapping last year.” Shin said.

Shin has played a big role in some of his close friends lives. “Jay is interesting because he’s not afraid to do whatever he wants, and he’s very funny.” Waggoner said.

Shin continues to make many peoples days, and impact the lives of many fellow students in a unique, positive way.
